The next race in the Portland Parks & Recreations awesome 5k Series is taking place at Westmoreland Park – a long and narrow park that you may be familiar with as where the Oregon Dairy Association holds the milk carton boat races. If that doesn’t help, it’s a tad west of SE McLoughlin and south of Bybee. The course should remain the same as in years passed – two loops around the park after a quick circling of the casting pond.

Even though these races are cheap – don’t let the low price fool you into thinking these are shoddily run. In addition to being a great value, they are very well-organized, chip timed, and don’t skimp on the amenities. The even offer a Sprinters 5k start for those who run sub-30 minutes (meaning you likely shouldn’t have to jockey for postion with a wall of 8 year olds.

There are also typically a bunch of family activities afterwards, from climbing walls to music and other activities.
