Race Preview: 2019 Me.She.We. Women’s Half/10K/Team Relay (Wilsonville),h_1664,al_c,q_90,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01/IMG_1825_JPG.jpg

Me.She.We. honors every runner with the same level of celebration, whether you cross the line first or last, and this is acted out by not having any extra awards for our fastest finishers.

As a runner who has been at the very back of the pack, those words from the Me.She.We. race team are music to my ears. Every participant in a race deserves to be celebrated for having the courage to get out there and try. As one of my favorite podcasters says: “First. Last. Same medal.” This team is taking that perspective even farther by getting rid of a public timing system to avoid comparison.

The support at the Me.She.We. run starts with free coffee before the races begin, and continue through an after-party with beer and food. There will also be free race photos, finisher medals, on-course aid stations, and a t-shirt for every participant.

This year’s event includes a new course so returning runners and walkers will be getting to experience something different. Multiple options exist for participants in this event, including a Team Relay where up to four runners divide up the half-marathon route into 5K sections. All team members join together for the final 1K segment together. The relay is set up for four members, but two or three can do it by checking in with the race director before registering.

Going back to the supportive goals of the leaders behind this event, I want to highlight the training groups and plans linked on their website. Me.She.We. has details about local running groups that participants can get connected with so that their running adventures aren’t limited to just one day. Instead they want to help you get trained and then help you get connected. And since those of us at Run Oregon want that too, I’m so excited to share this resource with you.
