Madras is a city on the way to Bend from Portland, and it’s also the site of the annual Canyon Crawl race, a 7.5 mile run from the city’s Public Works parking lot to nearby Lake Simtustus. There’s no race course available on the website, but per Google Maps, the only way to get there is on local roads or trails through logged forestland. That 7.5 mile distance is one way, but you don’t have run back — the race includes bus transportation from the finish line back to the starting point. It also includes lunch, with a choice of four options (none vegetarian, though) at Fraser’s Deep Canyon Grill.
Race day is May 4, at 10:30 a.m. The race fee is on a sliding schedule, ranging from $25 for Madras Aquatic Center members, to $30 for in-district racers, to $35 for all others. The registration deadline is April 28, and there is no late registration available, because the race organizers need to know how many bus spots to reserve for the return trip (as well as submitting advance lunch orders).
