When I first started running, I enjoyed the excitement of the big races and all that came with that. But over the years, I’ve found that I now prefer the small races and the sense of community that surrounds them. It’s supposed to be about the run and the people, not the huge lines and fancy expo tents. Races like the 2018 Crosstown Classic 10k at Government Camp are the perfect example of that, and you can run it on September 29th this year.
This trail race is all on single track trails on the Mt Hood National Forest prosperity and it’s guaranteed to be a beautiful race with views of Mt Hood and a small lake. It’s a simple, straight-forward out and back course, with “no thrills and frills” or gimmacks to get you out there. Simple. All for the love of the run. Or walk, as there’s no reason you can’t walk this one if you’d prefer that either. Consider a beautiful day to be on the trails.
The race begins at 9:00AM at the Government Camp Rest Area and you can check in as late as 8:50AM. The cost is $35 until September 1st, and then $40 until race day. If you wait until race day to sign up, it will be $45 to run. If you are also interested in signing up for the Oxbow 10k/8 Miler which is on October 20th, you’ll get a discount of $5 on one race. The discount will be applied to the second race you sign up for, whether it’s the Crosstown 10k or the Oxbow 10k/8 Miler. Your choice and two awesome races on the itinerary for you!
There will be free race photos and random prize giveaways for this race. Additionally, there is a prize purse ($50) for the first male and female finisher who are wearing Carson footwear. There will also be free race headbands provided by Carson. Some of the proceeds will also go towards Mt. Hood National Forest, so your money is going to a good place.

If you sign up for both the Crosstown 10k and either of the Oxbow Races distances (held in Gresham on October 20th), you will receive a discount. If you sign up for both the Crosstown 10k and the Oxbow 10k you get $5 off the second race you sign up for. If you sign up for the Oxbow 8 miler and the Crosstown 10k you get $8 off.
