Race Preview: 2018 Lake of the Woods Tri Sports Weekend (Klamath Falls)

Lake of the Woods is honestly, one of the most beautiful places in Southern Oregon, and on September 8th and 9th will be hosting the Lake of the Woods Tri Weekend. This weekend long event will feature a sprint Triathlon and Duathlon, a long course Triathlon and Duathlon, an open water swim, a kids Triathlon, a kids Duathlon, Cyclocross, Marathon, Half Marathon, and a 5K Poker Run. Stay the weekend and bring the family!
The Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon is 750 meters or 820 yards swim, starting at the swim area next to the marina and ending at the boat launch ramp. After the swim, participants transition to the bike and do a 9.25 mile loop around the lake, then transition into the run portion or a 5K or 3 mile trail run at the Lake of the Woods Marina. The run goes down to the Great Meadow and loops back to the Marina.
The Long Course Triathlon and Duathlon is a 1640 yards or 1500 meters swim, also starting at the Marina. Then participants transition into a 31 mile bike over to Fish Lake and back to Lake of the Woods Marina. Finishing with a 10K run, which follows the same course as the sprint tri, but doing two loops.
The Open Water Swim (new this year) will have two options, a 1500 meter or 3000 meter swim. It will feature the same course as the Long Course Triathlon and also will have the same starting time. 1500 meter swimmers have one lap and 3000 have two laps. The course will have swimmers swim counter clock-wise starting at the Marina and ending at the boat launch.
The Kids Triathlon will be for kids ages 9-13 (although, if your little one can manage the distance and is younger, let the race directors know). It will have participants swim 100 yards starting at the boat dock and finish at the boat launch. Kids will then transition to a 4 mile bike ride that heads over to Sunset boat launch and back. Finally transitioning to the running portion of a 1 mile trail run to Aspen Campground and looping back to the Marina. Parents are strongly encouraged to stay with their kids along the course.
The Kids Duathlon will have the same run and bike course as the Kids Triathlon.
Cyclocross (also, new this year) will be a 1/2 mile loop cycle in and around the resort and a 30 min and 1 lap duration. The course will be determined race day.
The Marathon (new this year), will follow the 1/2 marathon course out to the Great Meadow and back around the north side of the lake, before heading up Brown Mountain, and hooking back up with the High Lakes trail, and finishing at the marina.
The Half Marathon will feature a new course this year, with more off-road. It will start off similar to last year, but will have an out and back on the High Lakes Trail.
The 5K Poker Run will run the same course as the sprint tri. It will head towards Great Meadow and curve back to the marina. Each runner will get a 5 card poker hand by the end of the 5K the participant with the best 3 hands will win cash prizes! (Based on the number of participants)
Lake of the Woods Tri will be the perfect weekend getaway for the whole family. With beautiful scenery, and amazing courses, it’s a great way to celebrate the beginning of fall race season.
