This may be the least surprising news ever: many Portland runners like beer.
The organizers of The Oregon Brewery Running Series are aware of this news and bring opportunities for these runners to combine two of their passions throughout the year by running 5K events connected with local breweries. Coffee shops of the city, please take note and get on it for 2019.
The Fort George Brewing 5K is coming up this August as part of the series. The event is advertised as a “5K-ish” distance and an open course using sidewalks, parks, and trails (roads will not be closed for runners and walkers). This is an untimed event to encourage everyone who wants to join in. Plus the 11am start time gives you an easy morning start-up with time to check out the city before hitting the course. All 21-and-over participants receive a craft brew (non-alcoholic drinks will be available for the under-21 crowd). All finishers also receive a collector’s pint glass or seasonal swag item, live music, food, and activities by local partners and sponsors.
For those who want an extra adventure, check out the Brewery Tour option. Brewvana is a daylong experience that provides participants with a bus ride to Astoria and participation in the event. For an extra fee, riders tour two Astoria breweries and are provided with lunch and additional beers.
