Race Preview: 2018 Warrior Dash 5k Obstacle Race (Canby)

If you’ve never done an obstacle course race, the Warrior Dash is a good introduction to adventure races. I’ve had the pleasure of doing it twice and, as the website will tell you, it’s a race that “anyone can start and everyone can finish.” In my opinion, The Warrior Dash is as hard as you want to make it, and it’s more about having fun than anything else.

The 2018 Warrior Dash will be on Saturday May 19th this year in Canby, OR. It’s a 5k run with 12 awesome obstacles to clumb over and under. There are also lakes to cross, some fire to leap over, and some wire to crawl under. Did I mention mud? Don’t expect to cross the finish line covered in just your sweat. The muddier, the better. If you don’t like surprises, you can read more about the obstacles here.

This race has wave starts to help the course run smoothly. There are 8 standard wave options as well as 11 competitive and 11 preferred waves which cost an additional $10 and start earlier than the standard waves. Those are for participants who want to get the race finished before the day gets hot and while the course is at it’s best and most uncompromised condition. It is recommended that competitive wave participants have an average 5K time of 20 minutes or less. There is also a premium registration option (limited to only 100 Warriors) which allows you to pick any wave time you would like right up until race day.

As for the race swag, you’ll get more than just a mud run for your money. In addition to a cool t-shirt and a finisher’s medal, you’ll also get a fuzzy Warrior helmet and a celebratory beer. If you opt for the premium registration mentioned above, you’ll get a second free beer, a wristband which allows you to “re-run” the course an unlimited amount of times, and a VIP bag drop.

The after party for this race is almost as fun as the race itself. Additional beer, merchandise, and food will be available (awesome stuff like corn on the cob and pork wings as well as vegetarian options.) There will also be live entertainment, so hang out and chill for awhile to celebrate your victory!
