Race Preview: 2018 Heart Breaker Half Marathon, 10K and 5K

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and the holiday is all about hearts, love and more hearts. So, why not focus on something that benefits your heart health and the Providence Heart to Start program? The Heart Breaker 5K, 10K and Half Marathon takes place on February 11th and does just that!  Put on by RAM Racing, this race supports the local Providence Heart to Start program which is a program designed to get people running. Created by a Providence Cardiologist, Dr. Beckerman, members are given weekly training plans and once a week group runs to lead them up to their ideal race distance.

The Heartbreaker race itself includes three distance, a 5K, 10K and Half Marathon.  The race takes place at Liberty High School in Hillsboro and takes runners through the high school track, business park and country roads. The 5K travels through the local business park and is flat and fast. The 10K is one loop of the Half Marathon course and goes through country roads and farm scenery. This course is also relatively flat with some rolling hills near the end. The half marathon course starts with a slight uphill. Just prior to mile 3, racers will hit Heart Break Hill. There will be a separate chip time start and end for this mile portion of the race and the fastest male and female will receive awards. The rest of the half marathon course is comprised of three loops, one of which is run twice. The course travels country roads and through the business park.

The race starts with corral starts to spread out the racers. All racers will receive a long-sleeve technical shirt and medal.
