Race Preview: 2017 Reindeer Run 5k/10k/Half Marathon (St Helens)

This year marks the 8th year of the Reindeer Run 5k/10k/Half Marathon in St Helens and it’s a great way to celebrate the holiday season. This year’s event will be on December 2nd, and all the funds raised will go to the Columbia County Toy-n-Joy, the Columbia Food Bank, and the St. Helens Police Academy.

This race will begin and end at Columbia River Foursquare Church in St. Helens. You’ll get outside of town and into the beautiful country where you might even see some wildlife. There will be staggered start times to diminish congestion and runners and walkers alike will be welcome. There will be aid stations for all distances, but be advised that roads will NOT be closed for the race. There will be volunteers directing the 10k and Half Marathon in spots along the course, but please use caution and be safe. Check out a map of the course here.

If you are worried about staying warm while waiting for the race to begin or after the race is complete, don’t despair. The church commons will be open and there will be a fireplace and coffee, cocoa, and snacks. There is a beautiful room decorated for the holidays that will be available for the friends and  family who have come to support you as well. There’s a window for them to watch you cross the finish line, and music and refreshments to keep them comfortable. Even the restroom facilities are indoors.

When you finish the race, you’ll receive a special gift. It’s a surprise but will be in the spirit of the holiday season! There will also be two massage therapists offering free massages while you kick back. Who couldn’t use one of those?

So suck it up and don’t let the cold stop you from this amazing race. This is Oregon’s only Reindeer Run and you’ll be in good company that day.
