Small Race Preview: 2017 Coos Bay Turkey Trot (Free w/ 2 cans of food)

While the 2017 Coos Bay Turkey Trot is not super detailed in its description, it does have some positives going for it. First of all, it is completely free if you bring two cans of food. Secondly, it is held in John Topits Park withing the Empire Lakes trails system, which is:

…centered on the natural beauty of two lakes and stabilized dunes. Along the trails are many viewing areas of the lakes with benches to sit and watch for wildlife. Trails are paved and wheelchair accessible.  Several gravel and dirt trails go off from the main paved trails around the park.

I have been to, and ran in, Coos Bay on numerous occasions and I haven’t yet been to this location. While the following video is from a local realtor, it does actually showcase the trail system map for reference. If you happen to be in the area for Thanksgiving, or are looking to escape the valley to run, this low-key, untimed, and potentially new-to-you area may be what you are looking for.
