Race Preview: 2017 Corvallis Turkey Trot 5k/10k/1k

There are lots of options out there on Thanksgiving, but if you are in the Corvallis area on November 23rd, you’ve got yet another one to consider. The Corvallis Turkey Trot has a 5k, a 10k, and a Kids 1k so everyone can get in on the action. This fundraiser will benefit the Corvallis Parks and Recreation Family Assistance Fund, which provides low income families and people access to activities such as swimming lessons, therapy classes, and more.

The 5k and 10k are flat and fast races that will bring runners through the Osborn Aquatic Center’s beautiful neighborhoods in Northwest Corvallis. The Little Gobblers 1k for the kiddos will stay on the sidewalk for the whole race and it’s a perfect event for age toddler to 12 years. Parents are encouraged, though not required, to run with their little ones and spectators and volunteers are certainly appreciated! Everyone is welcome to join in on the fun.. Runners, walkers, strollers, leashed dogs, and anyone of any age you can think to invite. In fact, groups of 4 or more are eligible for a $5 a person discount.

The restrooms and locker rooms are available at Osborn Aquatic Center, so you are wanting to secure any items during your race, please consider bringing a lock from home. There will also be restrooms and warm-up space available at the Linus Pauling Middle School gym.

The 10k will start at 8:05AM and the 5k will have two wave starts at 8:10AM and 8:15AM. There is also an optional 7:45AM start for the 10k walkers, which is a great option considering that the official race timing will end at 9:25AM. The 1k kids run starts at 9:30AM and is a non-competitive fun run in which all participants will receive a medal and goodie bag.

All courses start and finish under the red inflatable arch near the Linus Pauling Middle School basketball courts. The course will be marked with arrow signs, volunteers at every corner, and cones in the busy areas. The 1k race will proceed from the parking lot onto the sidewalks and driveways clockwise around the Linus Pauling Middle School. The 10k follows the 5k course but loops around twice. Check out the course maps if you want more info.

There will be a costume contest for the best Thanksgiving-inspired 10k, 5k, and 1k participant, so start planning your outfit now! There will also be an awards celebration and raffle at 10:00AM and ribbons will be mailed post-race so everyone can get home to celebrate their Thanksgiving.

Register while the free t-shirt is still guaranteed! It’ll be a great way to start your holiday!
