Run Oregon Test Kitchen: AlpineAire – not just for camping anymore!

When I think of AlpineAire, my mind immediately goes to their just-add-water pouch camping meals that are a staple in my overnight pack. It wasn’t until recently that I discovered their pantry was much more diverse with the addition of various snacks, dips, and smoothies that can not only be used in the great outdoors, but are great to keep in a cupboard or in a drawer at work. But don’t expect them to last long – they are that good!

I was sent a variety of their new line of snacks to try, and can say I am as impressed.

While the snacks are healthy and natural, they aren’t low-fat or super calorie friendly. That’s not to say that they can’t be added as a healthy snacking option, but be careful not to devour an entire pouch (not a difficult thing to do), or you may be looking at upwards of 800 calories. The Monkey Mix is a combo of dried bananas (one of my favorite snacks) and dark chocolate covered bananas (uh…even better)! The Mango Fire is super delicious as well – a sweet vs. salty cross that was so hard for me to put down. The Cinnacrisp Slices are the most low-calorie of the bunch (just 60 calories per serving) and are freeze-dried apple wedges with cinnamon and sugar on top.

There are a variety of other new snacks as well, from fruit and nut mixes to dips and smoothies. Keep them in mind for all your refueling needs – on or off the mountain.
