If a marathon feels a little bit short for you, then the obvious next distance is a 50K race (~31 miles). And it just turns out that there’s a 50K race coming up in about a month: the Sasquatch 50K & Relay.
This race bills itself as a “classic beginner 50K” but follows that with “(the race director’s attempt at humor).” I’m no expert on ultra-marathons, but this one looks fairly challenging. It’s almost entirely a narrow trail run with an overall elevation change of nearly 6000 feet. Over the 31 miles, there are aid stations at miles 5, 10, 13, 16.5, 21, 24, and 27.
Here’s the race course:
With a wooded venue full of wildlife and poison oak, and four stream crossings, this sounds like a great race for those who love the outdoors. In fact, you can camp at the Sam Brown Horse Campground the night before, and be right there at the start of the race!
Net proceeds from the 2017 event will go to http://www.collegedreams.org.
