WOOLd you like to win some free stuff? Read on about eNZees!

Nothing can derail your running like pain in your feet. I know from experience. We recently stumbled upon eNZees, a New Zealand company (hence the “NZ) which is 100% sheep wool designed to prevent blisters and hotspots naturally. This is something that all people who enjoy the outdoors (hikers, runners, walkers, etc) can take advantage of. So how did this product come to be?

My husband and I are avid hikers back home in Durango, Colorado, however, we discovered eNZees Foot Soother halfway across the globe while trekking in a beautiful part of New Zealand’s Southern Alps on a trail called the Routeburn Track. During the pre-hike orientation meeting prior to our 27-mile trek, our hiking leader recommended that we bring some of the local wool fleece with us, in case we encountered foot problems along the way. Sure enough, the next day on the trail, I began to notice hot spots building under my toes. As our trek leader had suggested, I took a moment to apply the wool fleece around and under the problem area. I was amazed that within 30-minutes, the hot spot disappeared. That evening when I removed my boot and sock, my toe was soft and totally pain-free.

In a very simplistic way, you take some of the wool and wrap it around your “trouble spots”. The wool weaves its fibers into your socks so it will be held in place while you move, yet will remove easily afterwards. The wool provides a little buffer-zone or cushion between your skin, yet still allows it to breathe. There is also lanolin which will help keep things slightly moisturized and minimize friction. Run Oregon blogger Marilyn put it to the test:

I have had issues with hotspots and blisters for a long time, and I’ve tried a lot of different stuff–Body
Glide, special socks, double socks, kinesio tape, Vaseline, Aquaphor, etc.–with varying degrees of success. I decided to see how well eNZees would hold up when worn with my most blister- and hotspot-inducing shoes and socks. My left foot had eNZees tucked in between the toes and along my inner heel, and my right foot had nothing. After an hour of walking at a steep incline on a treadmill, my left foot with the eNZees, felt great! My right foot had a LOT of hotspots that felt tender and raw. Neither foot had any blisters the next day, but I would definitely consider using eNZees for blister prevention in the future. They were really comfortable to wear.
