I participated in this run last year, and really liked the unusual location (Sandelie Golf Course in West Linn), the cross country style course, running on grass and trails, the military vehicles set up for display and tours, and being a Navy Veteran’s wife, I appreciated the honoring of all service members current, past, and fallen.
Since the parking lot at the golf course is used for the start/finish tents for vendors, registration, gear check, and food, participants are asked to parked in a field less than half a mile away from the start. Shuttle buses are taking us to the start, or it is close enough to walk it within a few minutes too (although these country roads do not have a good shoulder to walk an). Last year there was even a coffee tent at the parking lot so we could hold a cup of warm drink while waiting for the shuttle.
All three race distances start together near the club house and parking lot. The half marathon is a double loop of the 10k (there is no course map for the half, and it’s possible it may be a little bit short of the 13.1 miles), and forks in the course where the 5k goes one way and the 10k/half goes another are very well labeled with flags and spraypaint in the grass, as well as volunteers on the course.
After the race, you can enjoy hot soup and cider, drinks from Full Sail and Barefoot Bubbly, music, and awards. Shuttles will run participants back to the parking lot as buses fill up.
Due to the nature of this cross country race, no strollers or dogs are allowed on the course.
