Race Preview: 2016 Portland Parks & Recreation $5 5K Series – Westmoreland Park on September 18

The next (and next-to-last) race in the Portland Parks & Recreations awesome $5 5k Series is at Westmoreland Park. This is the large park just west of SE McLoughlin where the Oregon Dairy Association holds the milk carton boat races. The course includes two loops around the park after a quick circling of the casting pond. (Watch out for goose poop. It’s slippery.)

You can check out all the courses HERE. The final race is scheduled for October 16th at Pier Park.

Despite the low price (hint: the entry fee is part of the name, and the races are free for kids 17 and under!), these races are a great value, very well-organized, chip timed, and don’t skimp on the amenities. A climbing wall, music, kids’ activities, and vendors are present at all the races. There’s also a kids fun run before each race.
