Now in its 3rd year, the ORRC Greenway Trail Trial has earned a spot on many local runners’ race calendars—not just those of host club ORRC! The unique format of this “pick your own start time” race and choice between walk or run are all features that have drawn hundreds of participants to the event over the past two years.
In addition, the wide asphalt path, chip-timing, lack of elevation on the route, and uncrowded start make it an event where a number of runners and walkers find themselves posting faster times than expected. Please note that unlike the previous two years, there is not a 5k on the schedule for this year’s race.
Held each year on Labor Day (which this year falls on Monday, September 5), the Greenway Trail Trial is run on the Fanno Creek Trail in Beaverton and Tigard. The start/finish is at Greenway Park.
If you have not run this event yet, be prepared to start in a small group of four to five participants (you can either arrange for friends to start at the same time as you, or start with whomever else thought that was a great start time). In the earlier part of the start window, it’s common for there to be a line waiting for participants to start, especially if the forecast calls for warm temps or high humidity.
Also be prepared to leave the race knowing your finish time and that’s it; due to the nature of the event, age group and overall awards can not be determined until all participants have crossed the finish line.
This is a wonderful race to volunteer for, because you can run early and then help out your community for a few hours. Email email@example.com to sign up for a volunteering shift.
