Wow! So this event is super cool, and definitely worth your time to check out! This inaugural 5k fun run and walk, in Brownsville, Oregon, will take place in tandem with the 30th anniversary of the filming of the iconic moving “Stand By Me“. Not only is there at 5k run/walk which kicks-off at 8:30 a.m., but throughout the entire day, festivities will be taking place in Brownsville to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the movie.
There are wonderful touches scattered throughout this event. Just before the 5k begins, a mock funeral ceremony will take place. It will be staged at Vroman and Main (by Dari Mart), with the plan being the eulogy will be delivered by Kent Luttrell (“the body himself”). Additionally, during the event, participants will get to participate in a 5 card rummy game. While on the course, you will pick up playing cards – one for each mile marker, one at Aces house, and one at the finish line. The best hands will win “Stand By Me” themed prizes!
Now onto the course, which begins on Vroman, zipping immediately onto Main Street and over the historic “Stand By Me” bridge. After crossing over the bridge, you’ll turn onto Park Ave, pass by Gordie’s house, and continuing into residential portions of Brownsville. You’ll then pass Ace’s house, where you will turn around and head back into down. Passing Gordie’s house again on the way to the finish line, you will cross the finish line in front of the Pioneer Park entrance.
Everything about this event, and the subsequent festivities following the 5k, will transport you back 30 years to the filming of “Stand By Me“. How incredible is that?! I just love everything about this!
