Are you an ORRC member? Well, did you know that the ORRC 5 on the 4th is FREE to members who sign up online before race day?
True story – this is a fun 5k with something for everyone; runners and walkers are supported for the 5k and there is a free kid’s run too. Here are the details:
When: Monday, July 4, 2016
What time: The kid’s run is first at 8:45a and the 5k is at 9a
Where: Mentor Graphics Campus at 8005 Boeckman Rd. in Wilsonville
Register: Online here for FREE if you’re an ORRC member; or $26 if you’re not; you can also register day of race
This race inspires a lot of people to dress up in red, white and blue, or even pull out a Lady Liberty or Uncle Sam costume. Tu-tus are encouraged, as are patriotic shirts, shorts, socks, and streamers. There’s even a costume contest before the 5k, so get creative!
I have run this race a number of times; including once with my daughter when she was only a few months old and then again when I was just barely pregnant with my son. I like it because it’s extremely laid-back. Even though official times aren’t kept (and results aren’t posted), there is a time clock and it’s a good chance to test your 5k legs without any pressure. The course makes a big loop with a number of mild hills, before it finishes back on the shaded campus streets at Mentor Graphics. After the race, participants will be treated to either frozen sweets like Popsicles or a fruit pie.
Parking is very easy at this race, and there are always ample porta-potties set up as well.
