Race Preview: 2016 Connect BG Milk Run 5k

In my line of “real” work, I am very familiar with ACE’s or Adverse Childhood Experiences. Ace’s are “potentially traumatic events that can have negative, lasting effects on health and well-being. These experiences range from physical, emotional, or sexual abuse to parental divorce or the incarceration of a parent or guardian.” In an extremely simple synopsis, the more challenging experiences one has in childhood makes someone more likely to have health and emotional struggles in adulthood. It’s not a guarantee, but the numbers go up as one number of experiences go up as well.

Despite being aware of this, I actually just recently discovered the Connect BG Milk Run, a race where proceeds go towards supporting the work of the Connect BG Coalition, an agency in Battle Ground, WA. The event has actually been around for over 40 years (!), but has been operating mostly as non-competitive 5k fundraiser. That is totally great, but this may be the last year of just a 5k as they will be working out their formal race directing “kinks” this year in preparation for adding a 10k and Half in 2017.

The 5k course looks to be flat and looped in nature. It starts and ends at Battle Ground High School and will trk through neighborhoods and alongside some great rural scenery.

If you are looking to support a race which is doing good in their community, look no further (and keep in mind for longer distances in 2017). Read here to learn more about while this event is for a good cause.
