After a hiatus of several years, Terrain Race has returned to Portland! While this event has continued in Arizona and a few other locations over the past few years, I am thrilled that it has returned to the Pacific Northwest. This 5K or 10K obstacle course race is a great event for the veteran or the newbie. With over 20 obstacles, plenty of mud, and tons of fun, this event will have you smiling from ear to ear when you finish.

Terrain Race promises mud, cargo nets, monkey bars, walls, balance beams, barbed wire, tires, and more. Plan on testing your strength, balance, and endurance as you encounter a variety of challenges on your 5K or 10K race. Check out the video below for examples of some of the obstacles you could encounter at Terrain. You can run this chip-timed event for fun or compete for time – depending on your wave choice. Either way, you’ll receive a finisher medal and a “Terrain Conquered” shirt.
This year’s event will be held at Sherwood Forest Equestrian Center. You will be getting dirty, so bring a change of clothes and shoes. Bring a towel, too, to dry off after you clean up at the showers. Then you can enjoy the music and vendors afterwards in clean, dry clothes.
Kids are welcome at this event, too! Kids ages 7-13 may run the 5K course with a parent. Ages 14 and over may run in either event. Kids from age 2-10 can enjoy the Little Monkey Course. This kid themed obstacle course is 1 mile or less and an adult can run along the course to cheer their child on. Little Monkey competitors will get a race bib, finisher medal, and t-shirt just like mom or dad will on the regular course.
In my opinion, obstacle course races are best enjoyed with a group of friends. The camaraderie is part of the great atmosphere, and you never know when you might need your friend to help you at an obstacle. Wave times are filling up quickly, so if you want to run with a group of friends, make sure to set up a team so that you will all be able to run at the same time. My team and I are registered and excited to be a part of Terrain’s return to Oregon. Gather your adventurous friends and don’t miss this fun obstacle course run. I hope to see you out there!
