Small Race Preview: 2016 Dragon Run 5k and Fun Run (Dallas)

The Dragon Run takes place on April 9th at Whitworth Elementary School in Dallas. This community 5k and fun run is a fundraiser for the Dallas Education Foundation, and besides the 5k, participants of all ages can choose from varying distances:  1/4 mile,  1/2 mile, 1 mile, and 1.5 mile. This year's theme is Super Heros, so feel free to dress up as your favorite hero.

The 5k course starts at LaCreole Middle School at 10am; it loops around a park and follows the trail along the river for the first mile, then moves onto neighborhood streets for the next mile and a half, before turning on the Whitworth Elementary School sports field and finishing on the running track at the high school stadium. The course looks mostly flat with just gentle rolling hills.

The shorter distances all start at 10:10am. The starting points for those distances are along the 5k running route, and participants position themselves at those starting points. All races then finish on the running track at WES.

This run looks like a lot of fun. Organized by the schools for the schools, it is a no-frills low-cost event which will donate all proceeds back to the schools. If you’re in the area, be sure to give it a try.
