Race Preview: 2015 Kevin’s Cup XXIV (Just an epic 8K trail run)

There's two kinds of cross country races. There are ones that involve well groomed grass and less elevation changes than your local track and then there is the real deal. X-Dog Events is a champ at doing it the right way, and Kevin's Cup is no exception. Slated for November 14th at Mary S. Young State Park in West Linn this run definitely has an off-the-beaten path vibe while being really easy to get to. The official race distance is 8K, but as in every true cross country run, there will be no personal bests set here.

The 10 am start time means you can have a relaxed pre race routine, as DOE registration doesn’t open until 8:30. Or you can save yourself a little trouble and register right now for $30. Entry also covers post race pizza and beer at a local Round Table Pizza. They always have unique pint glasses for participants and the most eclectic random prize giveaways. Of course, there will be the standard prizes for the top overall and age group finishers.

This event is also themed, with costumes encouraged. Prizes will be given to the best ones. It has been declared ‘Year of the Zombie’ so time to break out the best survivor or undead get up for even more entertainment.

As a past participant, I can say this is one of my favorite winter events. it has a few hills and some rough terrain, which is a nice change from road races. It doesn’t matter your pace, it is hard not to have fun at the race, providing you are dressed for the temps and have clean, dry clothes to change into afterwards. X Dog Events keeps this one low key and lots of fun, while being very well presented. So take advantage of the late 10 am gun time and get to Mary S Young Park on November 14th for some dirty and undead fun.
