The summer solstice is behind us, but daylight still stays with us pretty late these days. That means a late afternoon run leaves plenty of time afterward to enjoy some more sunshine and warm weather.
The Scrub Run, a new race by Uberthons, takes advantage of the summer conditions to offer a three-for-one: a 5K race, followed by Qdoba dinner, and capped by a concert performed by the winner of the Battle of the Doctor Bands.
Why is it called the Scrub Run, and what is the Battle of the Doctor Bands? As you can see from the race logo, the race theme is doctors; hence, medical scrubs. The Battle of the Doctor Bands was an event in June put together by the Medical Society of Metropolitan Portland, and the winning band was Wolf Meetings.
The event will be held at St. Josef’s Winery in Canby on August 15. The 5K race starts at 5 pm, followed by dinner at 6 pm, and the concert at 7 pm.
Full registration is $35 and includes the 5K race, finisher’s medal, dinner, and the concert. For non-runner spectators, dinner and the concert is $20. Kids 12 and under are admitted to the concert for free with a paid registration; dinner for kids is $7.
