On January 5, 2011, Rainier, Oregon Police Chief, Ralph Painter, tragically lost his life in the line-of-duty. Chief Painter had responded to a call of a disturbance in Rainier on that fateful morning and after a struggle with the suspect, was fatally injured.
The community of Rainier was devastated by the loss of the Chief, who coincidentally, was a lifelong runner and was training for the Portland Marathon at the time of his death. The Ralph Painter Memorial Run was established five years ago with the intention of raising money for a scholarship fund to be awarded to deserving high school seniors in Columbia County.
The fifth annual race will be held on July 25, 2015, in Rainier. A 5k, 10k, and a kid’s race will be offered beginning with the 10k at 8:30 AM. The fast course starts and finishes at the Rainier High School. The 5k is mostly on paved roads while the 10k is a combination of road and trail. Entry fees are $40 and $45, respectively, and can be completed online. T-shirts are included with the cost of the registration and packet pickup will be held from 7:30-8:15 the morning of the event.
The Ralph Painter Memorial Run honors the life of a well-loved law enforcement officer who made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of his community.
