Race Preview: ORRC’s 5 on the 4th

Oregon Road Runners Club puts on their annual 4th of July race, 5 on the 4th, as a benefit to their members, but everyone is welcome to participate. If you want an affordable race the whole family can join in on, this is the one. At just $5 per person (or free to ORRC members,) this race is the best holiday bargain around.

Starting at Mentor Graphics in Wilsonville, this flat 5K loop is perfect for a fast race. Walkers and runners are welcome to participate. Time clocks will be available, but no official times will be kept.

This small town event is festive, casual, and fun. I have run this race multiple times and would highly recommend it. There is a costume contest, which makes for some interesting people watching and quite the celebratory feel. The course is nice and there is plenty of parking near the start line. But, my favorite part of this event is the post-race raffle. There is always plenty of good stuff being given away from running gear to gift certificates and more. And that’s not all! This event also offers popsicles, ice cream, and individual apple pies for all finishers! All this for just $5? That’s how ORRC rolls!

Don’t forget to bring the kids for the Kids Fun Run, as well!  This is a fun, family 4th of July tradition that you don’t want to miss out on.  And, don’t forget – if you are not a member of ORRC, you can still join and enjoy this race for free!
