One of the more unique events we covered last year was the Running Wild 5k and Outdoor Skills Challenge, held in Monmouth. The 2015 version is back again on Saturday, June 20.
This year, employees of the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife have teamed up with Pheasants Forever to put on this family-friendly event. While it does include a 5K run/walk through EE Wilson Wildlife Area, it is so much more than that. In addition to the run, participants will test their skills at “trap shooting, spin casting, archery and animal track identification”. From their website:
Each activity will be facilitated by certified hunter/angler education instructors. There will also be music and a wildlife information station at the finish line along with a raptor demonstration by Close Encounters, the educational outreach initiative of American Wildlife Foundation, a licensed raptor recovery program based in Molalla.
Proceeds will go towards the 2015 Governor’s Toy Drive Campaign.
