Race Preview: 2015 Santiam Hospital Fun Runs

The start from a past event.

One of the best mid-sized, affordable, and longest running events in the Mid-Willamette Valley is just around the corner. The 26th Annual Santiam Hospital Fun Runs in Stayton are always ran on the first Saturday in June – June 6 this year. The event includes an 8k, 5k, and 3k and costs only $10 ($15 if you want a shirt). Yeah, you heard me – $10!

I have participated in years passed and it is a fun environment with runners from all different abilites and ages, and also a course that has some varied climbs and declines. Here is the main quote from a previous recap of mine that I always highlight:

I can tell you from past experience to be prepared for a pretty good hill on each distance (and 2 in the 8k), specifically at 28th Avenue and then again along Fern Ridge Road. There is also a pretty good climb to the finish along Pine Street, so keep a little energy stored up in your tank.

The race continues to grow each year (just shy of 700 runners attended last year). The courses remain unchanged and appear relatively simplistic, but I can assure you it is not as easy as it seems.

The post-race is typically a good time, with lots of food and drinks, as well as music and fun for the kids. There are definitely smiles all around. Maybe your smile can join?

Where: Santiam Hospital
