Eugene is going to the dogs on Saturday, May 16, when the 22nd Annual Bark in the Park will be taking place. New this year is a 10k run!

I love events that are focused on animal welfare; I am a certified animal lover. For everyone who registers for the 22nd Annual Bark in the Park, know that 100% of your pledges and sponsorships goes directly to assist the animals in the care of Greenhill Humane Society and 1st Avenue Shelter. This is simply awesome.

Here’s the low-down on the event. On Saturday, May 16th, the beautiful Alton Baker Park in Eugene will be taken over by dogs, and humans … But don’t think that just because you don’t have a dog, you can’t participate! Quit the contrary! I don’t have a dog, and am a huge cat lover, and I’m excited for this event! Organizers expect over 1,000 dogs and their humans to be at Alton Baker Park participating in either the 2k walk, 5k or 10k walk/run events. Not only can you run or walk with your canine family members, but there will be an expo at the event with vendors, demos, and special activities for all the dogs! And, if you just love animals and want to surround yourself with doggie-kisses and love, then make sure to sign up and get out there in the action!

I’m personally excited about the edition of the 10k event this year. To keep congestion on the paths in-check, the start times will be staggered, with the 2k walk occurring at 9 a.m., and then the 5k and 10k walk/runs taking off at 10 a.m. Awards will be presented to the fastest male and female finishers in age group divisions, and to the top 5 doggies to cross the finish line (with their owner, please!). But there are lots more awards being handed out! Top individual, and top team, fundraisers will be recognized. And, the fun part — awards for the best pet trick, pet/person look-alike contest, and even a pet/person karaoke contest. My cats and I could win that one! Cat karaoke is the best.

Definitely get registered for this incredible fundraising event for Greenhill Humane Society and 1st Avenue Shelter. With this being the 22nd Annual Bark in the Park event (22nd annual!), it has to be good!
