Small Race Preview – 2015 Prineville Memorial Hotshot Run, Prineville, OR

This is a classic race in Central Oregon and this year marks 21 years since the horrible tragedy that took the lives of 14 wildland firefighters. The races (5K walk, 5K run and 10K run) all benefit the Wildland Firefighters Foundation and it is a common site to see most, if not all, of the Prineville Hotshot team running in one of the races.

Interestingly, the 5K walk and run travel mostly through the streets of Prineville while the 10K is mostly a trail run, making this a neat race filled with options. The trail is part single track, part double track and is run mostly on what is known as the Iron Horse Trail in the north east corner of town. Typically, the race draws a fair size crowd and this year organizers are expecting a good turnout and have limited race shirts to the first 300 who get registered.

The races begin and end at Ochoco Creek Park, starting with a mass start for all events. Afterwards, stick around for the awards ceremony and a great BBQ!

When: Saturday May 2nd at 10:00 am

Where: Ochoco Creek Park, Prineville, OR

Cost/Register: $25 (kids 1K fun run = $15). Register here.
