Just like with airlines, we know that when it comes to Turkey Trots you have a lot of choices, so here is one more choice. ORRC’s Turkey Trot takes place at the Oregon Zoo on Thanksgiving morning. Parking is bound to be tight, so please consider carpooling or taking public transport to the start.
The 4 mile course is basically an out-and-back what starts in the zoo parking lot near the Forestry Center, then wind on paved roads through Forest Park downhill to the Japanese Gardens and the Portland Rose Gardens to the turnaround point. After retracing the same way uphill towards the starting area, runners then veer left into the zoo and run the main path around Stellar’s Cove, past the tigers and bears and monkeys to the finish near the elephant habitat.
The race will start in four waves beginning at 8am. This will give runners a chance to go first, followed by walkers, strollers and other late starters. No pets, bikes or rollerblades are allowed on the course. Registration is available online or by mail. Discounted registration is available for families and for youth 11 years old and younger. Adult registration does not include a shirt, but long sleeve cotton shirts are available for purchase for $15 and tech fabric for $22.
Over $25,000 of race entry fees is donated to the Oregon Zoo!
