If you are traveling to central Washington for Thanksgiving, Turkey on the Run is the race for you! In just a few short years, this race has become the largest Thanksgiving run in central Washington. With 380 runners in 2011 to over 900 in 2013, this race is obviously gaining a reputation for being a “must run” Thanksgiving day event. Organized by Run Wenatchee, this family-friendly event includes a 5K, 12K, and free kids run and is open to both runners and walkers.
This neighborhood race in Wenatchee, Washington will provide racers with views of the Wenatchee Foothills. 12K runners will take in views of Castle Rock as they make their way up Number One Canyon and will view the beautiful Wenatchee Valley on their way back to the finish.
Turkey on the Run raises money for the Women’s Resource Center of North Central Washington and collects non-perishable food donations for this organization as well. Last year $4,500 in cash and food was raised by this event alone. Run Wenatchee hopes to continue to increase their donations to this charity as this event continues to grow.
Turkey on the Run also supports the Columbia Valley Girls On The Run program. For the 8-12 year old girls in this program, Turkey on the Run will be their first 5K! What a great way to start out the holiday season!
I would highly recommend this event if you find yourself in central Washington this Thanksgiving. Run Wenatchee is an amazing organization promoting running and walking in the Wenatchee Valley and supporting the local community. The next time I am visiting relatives in this area for Thanksgiving, I will be participating in this event for sure!
