Portland Shamrock Run Opens Registration on October 1st, 2014 and adds a Half Marathon Distance Option

shamrock-run-banner The green returns on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the 37th annual adidas Shamrock Run. Don’t miss it!  Registration opens October 1st at www.shamrockrunportland.com. You heard it here first folks!

Okay, maybe not, but there are some who will have. But you read it correctly, The 2015 Portland Shamrock Run is adding a Half Marathon Distance to their list of races.  I am sure I speak on behalf of Half Fanatics everywhere when I say “It’s about time!” (as I squeel in glee).

Mark your calendar for October 1st to register for the 2015 Shamrock Run, including the new Shamrock Half, presented by LifeWise – a half marathon to kick off the season Irish-style.  This new course uses the same route as the Shamrock 15k and the additional 3.8 miles is added earlier in the route at the turnaround point that we are all familiar with. It may be tough for the legacy 15K runners to run an additional 1.9 miles past the turnaround, but for those wanting that half marathon credit, I think it will be just fine seeing a more scenic route of the Shamrock Run we all know and love.

There have been some concerns about the additional race and some have joked the new half will have people starting until Monday with the amount of waves. But rest your fears as there will have still be a cap on the race at 35,000 and 2,500 in the half to ensure a positive experience for all. I, for one, am thinking I need to run this one now that there is this new distance option! I honestly believe that many 15K registrants will also hop on the Half Marathon bandwagon like me. The only thing that continues to bother me is the hour I will have to wake to get into town.

The price seems reasonable at $75 for an epic event such as this and all finishers will receive an inaugural half medal. 15k runners will still receive their own medal as well.
