If you’ve wanted to qualify for the Boston marathon, this may be your final chance! The Lake Chelan Shore to Shore Marathon has the distinction of being the last Boston Marathon qualifier in the Pacific Northwest. With its views of the world famous lake, the vineyards, and the cascade mountain range, you’ll have all the motivation you need to pick up the pace for your chance to be a coveted Boston qualifier.
According to the race website, the Lake Chelan Marathon has “grown from a 200 runner event to a 620 runner event. Both the marathon and the half marathon are USA Track and Field Certified. Both courses begin on the south side of the 55-mile long lake and follow the shoreline through the quaint town of Chelan and then on to the community of Mason on the lake’s north side. The course is generally flat with some hills at the beginning and then again between Chelan and Manson. The 10k begins on the north shore and ends in Manson.”
Each participant will receive a timing chip, a custom finishers medal, and a tshirt. There will also be bottles of wine as prizes, which always come in handy after a good, long run.
During the summer and fall, the lake’s temperature on its east end warms considerably, so after you’ve enjoyed the scenic course, feel free to take a refreshing dip in the lake as reward for all your hard work!
