Did you miss out on the Silver Falls Marathon and Half Marathon, but still have a desire to run the waterfalls? The Silver Falls Challenge, held on Saturday, June 7 may just be the race you are looking for. What used to be only a 5k, race day now puts a 6 miler in the mix. Additionally, the race used to all be ran on the plateau above the falls, but the added distance means added scenery by venturing into the canyons below.

The courses will follow the Trail of Ten Falls, taking runners under the South Falls, something that is obviously an experience unto itself. The trail and terrain will be challenging and altitude gaining, with grass, gravel, pavement (including steps), and dirt under foot.

Keep in mind that this race is held the same day as State Parks Day, which allows everyone to attend Oregon’s State Parks for free. This may mean an uptick in non-running traffic along the course.  Following the race, park rangers will be holding a barbeque for all visitors to the park.

Silver Falls Challenge (Silverton)
