Small race preview: Barnes Elementary 5k and Kids Mile

Barnes-Community-5k-logo

I love a good, low-cost 5k that’s for a good cause. Put that 5k in Beaverton and odds are pretty good I’ll be there! The Barnes Elementary 5k fits the bill, and it’s only a few weeks away so be sure to put it on your calendar and invite all your friends. The race will raise funds for Barnes Elementary School.

Here are the details:

When: Saturday, May 31, 2014

What time: The Kid’s Mile will start at 9a, with the 5k taking off when all milers are finished

Where: Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 13715 SW Walker Road in Beaverton (near Walker Road and Cedar Hills Blvd)

Register: Online here for $20/person. Got kids? One kid can run free with each adult; additional kiddos can join in the fun for only $5 each. You can also register DOR from 7:45-8:45a, but registering early helps organizers plan.

Something cool: This race will have an water available, but they’re committed to being GREEN so they ask all participants to bring their own reusable water bottle to fill.

The 5k route starts out running northeast on Park Way, quickly taking a right turn onto SW 134th which becomes Edgewood. Participants will follow Edgewood as it “edges” around the neighborhood back to Park. At Park, they’ll take a left over to Hilldale, then a right on Foothill and skirt the perimeter of Foothills Park. Then it’s a quick zip down to Park again and a right turn to take you back to the finish line at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Our Small Race Preview series runs every Monday, to let you know of a low-cost race put on by local race organizers for the following weekend. Each race featured will offer day of race registration. Please get out there and support these events, and share this post to tell your friends!

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
