The Miller Woods Trail Race is a small event being put on by some experienced trail runners to raise funds for the preservation of Miller Woods. Located just ten minutes from McMinnville, Miller Woods “is a hidden gem. 130 acres of a relatively unknown conservation area complete with hiking trails and natural wonders.”
Here are the details:
When: Saturday, June 28, 2014
What time: The Kids Mile is first at 9a, followed by the 4-Miler at 9:30a.
Register: Online here for $30 for the 4-Miler or $10 for the Mile by 6/29, or DOR starting at 8a. If you’re a member of the Miller Woods conservation group the prices are $15/$5. Learn more here about Miller Woods membership, which is $35/year for an individual and $70/here for a family.

The four-miler is a loop, completely on trail, with about 640″ of climb over the course. The mile is also a loop, with two fun bridge crossings, also 100% on trail. The mile would not be suitable for young kids, but if your child can easily run a mile and likes trails, this is a really unique kids’ event!
There will be prizes for the top three male finishers, top three female finishers, top three male masters, top three female masters, and age bracket prizes. Even more valuable then a prize, though, in my opinion, is getting familiar with another destination trail practically in our backyard.

A long-time trail runner, coordinator John Spencer is also an awesome race volunteer that I know from his support of the ORRC Hagg Mud runs. I think this will be a low-key yet tightly organized event worth the drive from the Valley, the Portland Metro, the Oregon Coast, or even further away. (And why not spend the weekend in McMinnville while you’re at it?)
Put this one on the calendar and recruit your friends and family to come with you!
