Kegs & Legs Drinks of the Week: Rhinegeist Brewing Cincy Splash

For better or worse, running and drinking often go hand in hand—at least here in Oregon. If that’s not your thing, no worries. But if you enjoy a post-run sip, you’re certainly in the right state.

As someone who lives in the heart of one of the best wine regions in the world (there are dozens of wineries within 30 minutes of my house), I get around. Over the years, I’ve visited more than 270 unique wineries and nearly 880 breweries. I started tracking them about a decade ago, and it’s become a fun little hobby.

That number of breweries obviously includes many from across the country (in about half of the states in the Union actually). There are honestly only a handful of breweries in the entire state of Oregon that I haven’t visited. One state I haven’t checked off that list, though, is Ohio.

While it won’t count toward my unique brewery total (I have to have visited their tasting room), we were recently sent some cans from Cincinnati-based Rhinegeist Brewing to try their new Cincy Splash vodka soda.

I love a good beer, but I also like to diversify things a little bit. Cincy Splash comes in three vodka soda flavors: Pineapple, Black Cherry and Peach. Each is made with real fruit juice and comes in at just 100 calories and 2.8 grams of sugar.

I liked the taste of all three, with Peach being my favorite of the bunch. There’s a little bit of sweetness, but it isn’t overpowering, and they’re still light and refreshing. It’s the kind of drink that works well when you want something flavorful without feeling like you’re drinking something overly sweet.

Cincy Splash will be available in individual-flavor 12-ounce four-packs as well as eight-count mixed variety packs.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Cincy Splash is making its way to the West Coast, at least for now. So, if you’re in Oregon and want to give these a try, our best bet may be to make a trip to the Midwest. And hey, maybe the Columbus Marathon is a good excuse.

Clearly, my brewery list is in need of some Ohio additions, and a trip to Cincinnati sounds like it could be right up my alley.
