Few things go together quite like the 4th of July and a morning race. Before the BBQs fire up, the parades roll through town, and the fireworks light up the night sky, runners across Oregon are already out celebrating the holiday the best way they know how: logging miles in red, white, and blue.
Independence Day races have become a staple of the summer running calendar, bringing communities together through everything from quick family fun runs to competitive 5Ks and longer distance events. Some runners are chasing PRs, some are chasing pancakes at the finish line, and others are just looking for an excuse to wear an aggressively patriotic outfit before 9 a.m.
Whatever the reason, these races continue to be a fun way to kick off the holiday while supporting local organizations, schools, charities, and community programs.
