GRVL Goals: Running Light with Salomon’s GRVL Skin 2 Vest

There’s definitely a benefit to having a solid running vest that can handle the long haul—lots of storage and the ability to carry everything you need.

But sometimes a full-featured vest is overkill. Other times, all you really need is something light, a little storage, and the ability to stay hydrated. I have both kinds, and the new Salomon GRVL Skin 2 clearly falls into the latter—and it does it extremely well.

The GRVL Skin 2 is a lightweight, minimalist pack that hugs your body and feels like a second skin while running (hence the name). It’s part of Salomon’s GRAVEL RUNNING range, designed to move effortlessly across mixed terrain—similar to the Salomon Aero Glide 4 GRVL, one of our favorite shoes this year.

The vest uses SensiFit construction, combining stretch, breathable fabrics with lightweight adjustments for a secure, comfortable fit. The X-shaped anti-bounce design is sort of unique in a vest, but keeps you and your gear moving as one. It’s a unisex vest, but the design feels (and looks?) a bit like some sports bras in the way it minimizes bounce.

The fit is snug—unsurprisingly—but the lacing system is straightforward once you get it set. Depending on where you fit size wise, you maaaay want to consider trying a size up. Obviously, you don’t want an anti-bounce vest to become bouncy as a result of this, but it you may wanna play around with it to make sure it fits correctly.

Storage is minimalist but practical: two 500ml soft flasks fit comfortably in the front pockets, making hydration easy without extra bulk. There are some additional drop and zipped pockets as well. The back is stretchy and can be used to store some additional gear if needed – something like a jacket that you may need for later, or gloves that it became too warm for.

For anyone who doesn’t need a full-on marathon or ultra pack, the GRVL Skin 2 hits a sweet spot. It’s light, stable, and keeps essentials close at hand without weighing you down. Perfect for shorter runs, fast gravel days, or any outing where you want hydration and a little storage—but not the extra bulk of a full vest.
