Run Oregon Test Kitchen: Craft Coffee, Reconsidered

If there were a poll for Oregon’s beverage of choice, we might see a three-way tie between beer, wine, and coffee. Picking a winner from that trifecta feels nearly impossible—but coffee might be the most widely (and legally easiest) option fueling the state day in and day out. 

Portland may be the king of local roasters, but Oregonians from coast to high desert are powered by great beans. We’ll always recommend supporting your neighborhood spot, but it’s also fun to branch out and try something new—maybe even from places you’ve never heard of before. Here are a few to consider.


Sightglass Coffee

Roasted locally in both San Francisco and Los Angeles, Sightglass Coffee carries a strong West Coast identity. Thinking back, I’m fairly certain I ran past one of their cafés near Golden Gate Park last October—one of those spots that blends seamlessly into a good city run.

While manatee bodies aren’t exactly built for tempo runs, the coffee has a solid body. The company uses 100% pure Arabica beans sourced from growing regions around the world, offering a range of profiles to match different tastes. There are traditional roast options for everyday drinkers, along with flavored varieties like pumpkin spice and espresso nog for those who like something a little more seasonal or playful.
