Aged to Perfection: Running Oregon’s Oldest Race at the Zena Road Runs

The Zena Road Runs (15K, 6 Mile, and 3 Mile) return once again for their annual running in Salem on Sunday, February 15, 2026. As the oldest road race in Oregon, now entering its 56th year, Zena continues to be one of the most beloved winter fixtures on the local running calendar.

Check out our 2022 recap here!

Runners can choose between a 3-mile, 6-mile, or 15K course, each winding through the rolling hills and scenic backroads of Oregon’s renowned wine country.

All race distances start and finish at Noble Mountain Tree Farm in rural West Salem. Thanks to a special arrangement with the farm, the event—capped at 400 runners—once again provides access to a heated building for both pre-race hanging out and post-race celebrations. Trust us: that alone is worth the entry in February.

The 3-mile and 6-mile races are both out-and-backs beginning at the farm. Runners head north along Bethel Heights Road, with the 6-miler taking a brief southern detour early on before doubling back. While these routes are straightforward, don’t mistake them for flat—expect roughly 250 feet of gain in the 3-mile and nearly 600 feet in the 6-mile.

The 15K remains the crown jewel of the event and offers a true tour of the countryside. This hilly, counter-clockwise loop opens with a long descent over the first four miles, transitions into rolling terrain, and then gradually climbs back toward the finish. Save something for mile 7—that hill has humbled many a confident runner.

Along the way, the 15K passes at least five wineries, serving up some spectacular views when the weather cooperates. And when it doesn’t? That’s part of the charm. Over the years, Zena has delivered sunshine, rain, snow, and everything in between. No matter the conditions, the race is consistently well-organized, welcoming, and stocked with excellent post-race food—and wine.

Despite the rural setting, longtime locals along the course still come out to cheer, wave signs, and support runners, continuing a tradition that’s lasted more than five decades.

Stick Around After the Finish

Post-race festivities include a complimentary 5-ounce pour from select Eola–Amity wineries or sparkling cider. All participants receive a stemless race-logo wine glass, and race shirts are available for an additional $30.

With its limited field, historic roots, and uniquely Oregon vibe, the Zena Road Runs remain a must-do winter race. If it’s on your radar for 2026, don’t wait to register—this one fills up fast.
