Get Through the Doldrums of Winter with Women Run PDX

Winter is HARD if you’re a runner, especially if you don’t have anyone to get up to meet you in the cold and dark weather. No one wants to lace up and face that alone, so me and my friend and fellow running coach decided it was time to offer up the Women Run PDX training group to get women (sorry boys!) moving before Spring hits.

Heini Tallent and I created Women Run PDX this year because we were already running coaches with similar styles who loved connecting women thru running. In our opinion, running should be a fun and positive experience, and having a village of others to encourage you through every step can be the thing that keeps you going.

So, we trained our first group of ladies over the summer in preparation for the Portland Half Marathon (you can read about that here) and we all had so much fun that we decided we wanted to “get the band back together” and do it again.

This time, we aren’t preparing for any particular race, though this training cycle could easily get women ready for the Shamrock Half in March. This season is shorter (8 weeks) but will get women thru what is arguably the worst running season in the Pacific Northwest. We’ll start at the end of January and train ladies right up thru the 3rd week of March.

There are a couple of options for folks on a busy schedule. Ladies can sign up for “Long Run Saturday” only, for “Track Tuesday” only, or for both options. Saturday runs will start at 8AM at various locations for a nice 60 to 90 minute out-and-back in Portland and Tuesdays will take place at 6AM at the Ida B Wells High School Track for a 45 minute track workout.

We already have almost all of the ladies who signed up for the Summer session signed up for this one, and they are all amazing women, so we have very high hopes for the upcoming season! We’d love to see you there!
