Dia de Los Muertos is a celebration of life, and I can’t think of a better reason to run the Dia De Los Muertos Endurance Run in Newport. What started as a 5k has turned into a race that can last anywhere from 6 hours to 48 hours. If this is your thing, mark the weekend of October 23 -25, 2025 on your calendar.

In true endurance fashion, the goal is simple: complete as many loops as possible within your chosen time limit—6, 12, 24, or even 48 hours. The course covers 2.4 miles per lap, blending both trail and pavement, and will test your mental grit as much as your physical stamina.
- Start on the Cooper Ridge Trail, heading north for 2,695 ft
- Transition to a scenic paved path for 959 ft
- Follow the Old South Jetty Trail for 1,814 ft, taking in sweeping views of the Yaquina Bay Bridge, Yaquina Bay, and the Pacific Ocean
- Turn left onto South Jetty Road for 891 ft
- Return along the South Jetty Trail for 2,710 ft
- Rejoin the Old South Jetty Trail for 2,659 ft
- Cross the Day Use Parking Lot (107 ft)
- Finish with an 816 ft trail segment back to the starting point
Course Stats:
- Total Distance: (2.4 miles)
- Surface: 63% trail, 37% paved
- Elevation Gain: Between 11 ft and 77 ft

The course start will also have an altar, which is called an ofrenda. Runners should feel free to visit the ofrenda before the race to leave their offerings in honor of their dearly departed. Some examples of offerings would be photos, written messages, flowers, trinkets, or fruit. What a great way to kick off a race – celebrating our own health and endurance and paying respect to those who are no longer with us.
After the run, there will be a traditional Aztec dance performance by Huecha Omeyocan. Hang out and celebrate!! You’ll also receive a custom DDLM Endurance Run belt buckle if you have completed over 50 miles or 100 miles on race day. All participants who have completed at least 11 loops will receive a Finisher medal.
If you’re up for the challenge, come out to Newport and give this race a shot!
