Three Cheers for the Oktoberfest Road Race

Mt Angel is a magical place known for its German style, and there’s a fabulous festival and street fair that takes place every year called the Mt Angel Oktoberfest. This year, this festival takes place September 11th thru the 14th, and another tradition, the Oktoberfest Road Race, will be occurring on that final day of the festival.

The race, which used to fall on a Saturday, now takes place on Sunday to close out the weekend.  It starts and finishes at John F Kennedy High School and is hosted, as usual, by Silverton Runners Club. You’ll have a 5k or a 10k to choose from and the race starts at 9:00AM.

The course for this run has a little something for everyone. It will start on the track at the high school before heading through the paved hamlets of Mt. Angel. There’s also a bit of gravel and dirt and you’ll get to run through a farm/nursery. 10k runners will get some great views running up Mt Angel’s Abbey Hill.  You can view the course map for the 5k here and the 10k here.

Please bring your own water vessel! Bulk water will be available to fill your bottles with, but there will be no plastic bottles available to you.

The cost of this event is $30 for the 5k and $35 for the 10k. All runners will receive a commemorative pint glass and all finishers over 21 will get a complimentary ticket for a beer at Oktoberfest. For an additional fee, you can purchase a tee shirt. Proceeds from the event will help support the Kennedy, Silverton, and Gervais middle and high school track and cross-country programs.

Come join the party!!!
