Kegs & Legs Drinks of the Week: Melograno

For better or worse, running and drinking often go hand-in-hand—at least here in Oregon. If that’s not your thing, no worries. But if you enjoy a post-run sip, you’re certainly in the right state.

Oregon runners are no strangers to pairing miles with a local beverage. We’ve got entire race series dedicated to finishing at some of Oregon’s top breweries and sipping a pint afterward. Wine lovers get their own version too, with race events winding through the vines of Oregon’s best wineries. Even if it’s not an official beer or wine run, you’ll often find a cold one waiting at the finish line.

Just a few weeks ago, I ran the Fueled by Fine Wine Half Marathon, which capped off a hilly but beautiful tour of Dundee’s vineyards with a full-blown wine festival.

Clearly, if beer or wine is your jam, there’s no shortage of opportunities here.

That’s what makes Melograno such a refreshing find. While many Oregonians know their way around an IPA or a Pinot, not everyone wants hops or tannins. And if hard seltzers aren’t your thing either, Melograno’s canned craft cocktails might just hit the sweet spot.

These drinks are made from organic blue agave wine—not spirits—and they don’t taste like your typical glass of wine. Even more interesting, they’re infused with nitrogen instead of traditional carbonation. That means smaller bubbles, a smoother mouthfeel, and enhanced aromas and flavors without the sharp bite of fizz.

Current Flavors Include:

  • Pomegranate Cosmo
  • Cucumber Lime Mojito
  • Orange Blossom Martini
  • Melon Margarita
  • Pina Colada
  • Strawberry Mule

While Melograno isn’t yet available in Oregon stores (fingers crossed for that to change!), it is available in Southern California—so if you’re down that way for a runcation or vacation, keep an eye out. You can also order online through partners like Winc or Total Wine & More.
