Smartwool’s revamped activewear line is lightweight, breathable, and engineered to keep runners cool, dry, and odor-free through every warm-weather workout. We recently checked out some items from their new spring Activewear Collection.

Active Mesh Short Sleeve

I can never have too many running shirts, in my opinion. As I am working out daily (and sometime multiple times a day), I am cycling through my collection pretty quickly. There are some that are fine and do the job, and then there are some that I actively seek out because of the comfort and fit. Smartwool’s Active Mesh Short Sleeve falls into that latter bucket.

From a functional standpoint, the top is fully equipped with all the essentials. Constructed from a blend of Merino wool, recycled polyester, and Lyocell, it embodies a trifecta of performance benefits. You get the natural advantages of wool paired with durability and cooling properties, along with the quick-drying attributes of polyester.

Mesh ventilation strategically placed at the sleeves and back ensures optimal breathability, allowing you to feel comfortable and confident on your runs.

The shirt’s comfort is top-notch, boasting a super-soft feel and a relaxed fit that avoids any bagginess. Additionally, it features a drop tail scooped hem and subtle reflective elements. Available in five colors.

Active Ultralite Short Sleeve & Active Ultralite Long Sleeve

In a time when running gear often feels over-engineered, the Smartwool Ultralite Tee and Long Sleeve Tee keep things refreshingly simple—at least on the surface.

With over 8 colors in the short sleeve and 3 colors in the long sleeve – ranging from muted to bold – the design stays quiet and unfussy, free from loud logos or flashy patterns. That minimalist approach makes them incredibly versatile; soft enough for casual wear, yet built for performance whether you’re logging miles or hitting the gym.

They strike a rare balance between practicality and comfort, easily transitioning into a top to pair with jeans when needed.

Beneath that clean exterior, however, is a technical build that earns its stripes. The tees are made from a blend of Merino wool and TENCEL, creating a featherlight fabric that breathes well, feels great on skin, and naturally resists odor. The construction is smooth and non-chafing, with a fit that leans athletic without being clingy—something I always appreciate.

It’s a top that doesn’t scream for attention but delivers exactly what you want when you pull it from the drawer.

Active Lined 7″ Short

Smartwool’s new Active Lined Short continues their trend of pairing modern tech with a simple, no-frills design. Available in four mostly muted colorways—including a more playful navy and lime combo—they stay understated, letting comfort and performance take center stage. Currently offered only in a 7-inch length, they strike a solid middle ground: great for those who like a bit more coverage, though potentially long for runners who favor a shorter cut.

The build mirrors Smartwool’s Ultralite tops, using a similar Merino wool and TENCEL blend to keep things breathable, lightweight, and sweat-ready. The elastic waistband with a drawstring stays put easily, and the layout is classic: side pockets (which I personally like, for reasons I can’t explain) and a back pocket for essentials.

There’s nothing flashy here, but that’s the point—the tech does the work, and the design stays out of the way. No chafing, a comfortable fit, and a dependable option for everyday runs and workouts, even if it’s not the go-to for race day.

Whether you’re hitting the pavement for a morning jog or tackling long runs in the heat, Smartwool’s Active line is a great companion for any workout.
