We don’t throw the word “obsessed” around lightly, but when it comes to the Tracksmith Eliot line, it fits. This is one of those rare shoes where having one pair just isn’t enough. It nails the blend of lifestyle aesthetic and performance tech so well that it feels just as at home on a shakeout run as it does at the coffee shop. In fact, so much so, that I have 4 pairs of this shoe.
So, when Tracksmith announced the Eliot Racer, we were equal parts curious and excited — a little more tech, a little more speed, and still very much Tracksmith.
Let’s break it down.
Looks
No surprises here — Tracksmith knows how to make a good-looking shoe. The Eliot Racer keeps things minimalist and refined, but the details pop. That launch colorway — crisp white with a gold sash — feels part classic New England and part Olympic podium. It somehow manages to look both premium and fast without shouting about it.
You might not want to scuff these up… but you definitely will.
Construction and Fit
Though the numbers say 38mm of heel stack, the Eliot Racer doesn’t look like one of those chunky supershoes. That’s thanks to a clever drop-in midsole design that tucks away some of the visual bulk. The result? A sleek silhouette that still delivers cushion and height.
Fit-wise, it feels snug in all the right places. The microsuede lining at the tongue and heel is one of those “feel it to believe it” touches — soft, smooth, and undeniably premium. There’s a secure hold through the midfoot, but no overbearing squeeze. It fits like a race shoe, just without the pressure.
Specs
- Stack height: 38mm (heel) / 30.5mm (forefoot)
- Drop: 7.5mm
- Weight: 7.7oz (Men’s size 9)
Upper
Tracksmith didn’t reinvent the wheel here — and that’s a good thing. The mesh feels familiar if you’ve worn the original Eliot, with just the right blend of breathability and hold. Where it levels up is on the inside: the tongue and collar lining are buttery soft, and the lockdown is dialed in. No heel slippage, no lace bite, no fuss.
It’s a shoe that disappears on your foot in the best way.
Midsole
Here’s where the Racer earns its name. The dual-foam setup — a top layer of bouncy aliphatic TPU paired with PEBAX underneath and a carbon plate sandwiched between — makes this shoe feel genuinely lively. The foam combo gives a snappy toe-off without feeling harsh, and the plate adds a little extra propulsion without being stiff or overbearing.
It’s not trying to be your ultra-soft marshmallow racer. Instead, it gives you just enough spring to encourage speed, wrapped in a chassis that stays grounded and controlled.
Outsole
Rubber placement here is smart and simple. It covers the high-impact zones without adding unnecessary weight. Whether on wet pavement or dry sidewalks, grip has been reliable. We haven’t had any issues taking corners at tempo pace or picking up the stride when things open up.
It doesn’t try to be flashy — it just works.
At $280, this shoe walks confidently into a crowded category, but it does so with a quiet kind of swagger. The Eliot Racer doesn’t try to outdo the competition with wild shapes or gimmicks. It sticks to what Tracksmith does best: understated style with thoughtful performance.
This probably isn’t the kind of shoe we’d pick for a full-on race effort where we’re chasing the clock with everything we’ve got (though its close)— but for tempo runs, long strides, or just days when we want to look good and feel fast? The Eliot Racer fits the bill.
If the original Eliot is the shoe we reach for without thinking, the Eliot Racer is the one we lace up when we are thinking — about pace, about feel, about finding that sweet spot between form and function.
