Grip It and Sip It with the HydraPak Tempo Pro

I’ve been a steadfast handheld water bottle user for years. In my younger days, I naively thought pausing for water during runs was a sign of weakness—what a concept! I dabbled with hydration belts and still occasionally use hydration packs, but for most runs, a handheld bottle is my trusty companion. Staying hydrated, even on shorter runs, has transformed my running experience, making it more enjoyable and allowing me to go the extra mile.

Over time, I’ve amassed a collection of handhelds, each with its quirks. Many feature pouches—a handy addition for stashing my phone to snap quick photos for Instagram. However, combining 12 to 16 ounces of water with a phone can feel heavy and a bit cumbersome. Some pockets lack the elasticity needed for easy one-handed phone access, turning a simple task into a juggling act. That is why I still utilize running belts or other apparel solutions for packing my essentials.

Enter the HydraPak Tempo Pro 525ml. This bottle ditches the storage pouch in favor of a minimalist, comfortable hand strap. Its 17-ounce capacity is housed in a slim design that contours naturally to the hand. The soft-squeeze bottle paired with a high-flow, leakproof cap ensures quick hydration without breaking stride. Plus, it’s BPA and PVC-free, aligning with health-conscious choices.

The standout feature is the Pro Strap. It sort of looks like a thong sandal – but instead of feet it wraps around your hand and wrist, distributing weight evenly and eliminating the need for a tight grip. Unlike those types of sandals, I found that the Hydrapak Tempo Pro does a good job at staying comfortable.

The padded top piece minimizes irritation (something that most thong sandals can NOT say) and offers a secure yet comfortable hold. It is adjustable and allows for whatever hand you prefer to hold the bottle comfortably.

For those who rely on carrying phones or keys during runs, the lack of a storage pocket might be a dealbreaker. However, if you can find alternative storage solutions, the Tempo Pro is worth considering. Its ergonomic design and simplicity make it an excellent choice for training and racing alike. I mean, even elite runners like Jim Walmsley have been spotted using these bottles during major races – he ran with one in each hand at Western States last year!

The HydraPak Tempo Pro 525ml offers a thoughtfully designed, minimalist approach to handheld hydration. I am here for it!
