I am constantly changing what I want in a road shoe because I always just want my trail shoes in a road version, but that isn’t always what my body needs (and sometimes that version doesn’t exist). I’ve had this pair of Hoka Skyflows for about 6 weeks and have been loving the lighter feel, the new foam cushioning, the thinner mesh on the upper for breathability – and flexibility – and, of course, the pop of color!

The Skyflow comes in several color iterations for both the Women’s and Men’s versions, with some overlap for the Frost/Solar Flare and and Frost/Rose Gold. An all-white shoe is becoming more and more popular and if that’s your jam, there’s a version for you!

With a 5mm drop, these certainly aren’t minimal but have enough to give your calves a break. Although they have a slightly roomier toebox than other Hoka models, I wouldn’t call this a “natural” toebox such as a Topo, Altra, or Lems and I could see myself still wanting to go up a half size to accommodate for any swelling for long runs, though the mesh has quite a lot of give.
The heel collar is generously padded, and tall, which adds to the stability, but if you’re a millennial still wearing low-cut socks, you might have to join the ranks wearing crew socks!

The outsole has a durable rubber, providing support, and begins to flex a bit more after racking up some miles. The traction is, well, a road shoe. This is not an all-terrain shoe or a door-to-trail by any means. This is a road shoe, treadmill shoe, track shoe, gym shoe outsole.
As previously mentioned, the Skyflows are a cushiony ride! They have new, super-critically foamed EVA. What the heck does that mean and why should you care? The TL;DR is that is it a foam that is lightweight but durable, offers better breathability and moisture management, and is made with a lower demand for toxic chemicals (great for the environment, great for the workers making these shoes, and great for you, the consumer).
The Skyflows, however, is not a supershoe – you can look to the Hoka Skyward X for a similar build but with the carbon plate. Despite this, the Skyflow is still designed with a rocker profile and is a great “daily driver”, as they say.
